The Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) is a device that provides a suitable supply voltage for the microprocessor, it can be directly soldered on the motherboard, or can be installed in the form of a module daughter card. The supply voltage can be changed and adjusted, so the same motherboard can be placed with processors using different supply voltages.

As the VRM generates heat when operating, if the heat was not dissipate in time, the overheated vrm could not regulate the voltage normally. We all know that the CPU needs a heatsink to keep it working under the safe temperature, but few people think about if the vrm needs a heatsink, actually your VRMs require a heat sink to keep them operating under the right temperature.
Due to the power of VRM is not so high like CPU, so the type of heat sink is usually aluminum extruded heat sink, but With the increasing integration of VRM, the traditional aluminum heatsink extrusion could not meet the thermal requirements, to solve the thermal issues of VRMs, we have to improve the heat dissipation efficiency. But how to design a thermal solution? embedding heat pipe into the aluminum extruded heatsink to build a integrated aluminum extruded heat pipe heatsink.
As we all know heat pipe has extremely high thermal conductivity. It transfers heat through the evaporation and condensation of liquid in a fully enclosed vacuum tube. It uses fluid principles such as capillary action to achieve a refrigeration effect similar to a refrigerator compressor. It has high thermal conductivity, excellent isothermal properties, variability of heat flow density, reversibility of heat flow direction, long-distance heat transfer, constant temperature characteristics, compared to metals such as silver, copper, and aluminum, heat pipes can transfer several times more heat per unit time. So embedding the heat pipes into the extruded heatsink can rapidly improve the thermal transfer efficiency, this type of heat sink can absorb the heat from VRM and transfer to the heat sink fins more quickly than single aluminum heat sink, so the heat can be removed faster and make the VRM under the safe operating temperature.
